Workshop: Neurosurgery & Cancer Pain

In an effort to enhance the department’s healthcare services, Dr. Caudron participated in the Neurosurgery & Cancer Pain workshop, held in Amiens on February 6 and 7. This workshop, jointly organized by the French Society of Neurosurgery and the French Society for the Study and Treatment of Pain, provided both theoretical and practical training on the surgical management of refractory pain in oncology patients. More than half of cancer patients experience pain during their treatment journey, regardless of the type of cancer. While systemic or intrathecal drug therapies can help alleviate pain, they are sometimes insufficient. Additionally, intrathecal therapies require regular maintenance to refill the pumps. Several surgical procedures can effectively relieve pain without the need for ongoing care, including: • Cordotomy • DREZotomy • Commissural myelotomy

These techniques will soon be presented to the oncology and palliative care departments in the region. Dr. Caudron will also continue his theoretical and practical training with teams that already perform these procedures.
