Dr. Bertrand Baussart joins Lariboisière
As of December 1, 2024, Dr. Bertrand Baussart, a national reference in pituitary surgery, joins the department. Trained in the lineage of Drs. Gérard Guiot, Patrick Derome, and Stephan Gaillard — one of the most prestigious French schools of pituitary surgery — he follows a tradition of excellence where expertise is passed down from generation to generation.
This high-level training provides him with recognized mastery in the management of rare pituitary pathologies, notably Cushing's Disease, Acromegaly, and Prolactinomas.
Rare Disease Competence Center
Lariboisière Hospital has been recognized as a Rare Pituitary Disease Competence Center (HYPO Lariboisière), under the responsibility of Dr. Baussart, with more than 4,000 patients operated on via endoscopic approach — one of the leading active programs in Europe.National Referral Activity

Neurosurgical activity is built in close interaction with the Endocrinology department of Prof. Jean-François Gautier, in connection with Drs. Marie Laloi and Karima Chafai, medical referents for the pituitary gland.
The team participates in 8 Pituitary MDTs in Île-de-France (adult and/or pediatric), coordinated by the reference endocrinology departments: Cochin, Kremlin-Bicêtre, Pitié-Salpêtrière, Saint-Antoine, Ambroise-Paré, Lariboisière, and Saint-Joseph.
It is also involved in 2 national MDTs — HYPOCARE (aggressive pituitary tumors) and CRANIOCARE (craniopharyngiomas), coordinated by the Lyon University Hospital — attesting to its central role in organizing the care pathway for complex pituitary tumors.
Pediatric Care
Dr. Baussart is the Île-de-France neurosurgical referent for pediatric pituitary pathologies. This ultra-specialized surgery is performed:
- At Necker Pediatric Hospital (Prof. Kevin Beccaria) — for children under 16 years old
- At Lariboisière Hospital — for children over 16 years old
Dr. Chiara Villa joins Lariboisière
As of November 1, 2024, Dr. Chiara Villa, an internationally recognized neuropathologist, joins the pathology department directed by Prof. Homa Adle-Biassette.
A leading expert in the histological diagnosis of pituitary tumors, she actively contributes to European working groups (EPPG, EuroPIT) and is co-author of the chapter dedicated to the classification of neuroendocrine tumors in the 2022 WHO Classification. Her high-level scientific output includes numerous international presentations and major publications in clinical and fundamental research.
The joint arrivals of Dr. Baussart and Dr. Villa constitute a major strategic advancement for Lariboisière Hospital, strengthening the quality of the care pathway, scientific excellence, and the international visibility of the center.
