However, data on the\u00a0<strong>safety and effectiveness<\/strong>\u00a0of pituitary surgery in patients\u00a0<strong>aged 75 and older<\/strong>\u00a0remain limited. This article explores a recent study evaluating surgical outcomes in this age group, shedding light on\u00a0<strong>surgical feasibility, complications, and long-term results<\/strong>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Study Overview<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A\u00a0<strong>retrospective study<\/strong>\u00a0was conducted on\u00a0<strong>155 patients aged 75 and older<\/strong>\u00a0who underwent surgery for\u00a0<strong>pituitary adenomas and Rathke\u2019s cleft cysts<\/strong>\u00a0between 2008 and 2022. Their outcomes were compared to a control group of\u00a0<strong>2379 younger adult patients<\/strong>\u00a0treated by the same expert neurosurgical team.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Key Findings<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<h4 class=\"wp-block-heading\">1. Low Complication Rates<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>Surgical complications<\/strong>\u00a0were observed in only\u00a0<strong>5% of patients<\/strong>. \ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>30-day mortality rate<\/strong>\u00a0was\u00a0<strong>0.6%<\/strong>. \ud83d\udd39 Other complications: Hematoma (0.6%), Cerebrospinal fluid leak (1.9%), Meningitis (0.6%), and Epistaxis (1.3%). \ud83d\udd39\u00a0<strong>No cases of persistent diabetes insipidus<\/strong>\u00a0were recorded. \ud83d\udd39 The\u00a0<strong>complication rate was similar to younger patients<\/strong>.<br><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Conclusion<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">This study confirms that\u00a0<strong>pituitary surgery in patients aged 75 and older<\/strong>\u00a0is both\u00a0<strong>safe and effective<\/strong>, particularly when performed by experienced neurosurgical teams in\u00a0<strong>tertiary centers<\/strong>.
